M3 Year

J. Riley Alef, M3, and a trio of other medical students discuss patient care with Dr. Danielle Foster.

M3 Boot Camp

In the summer at the beginning of the third year, the newly-minted M3s are introduced to the clinical setting of medicine with a two-week “boot camp.”  During this time, students learn how to manage the electronic medical record, perform advanced cardiac life support, and navigate the expectations and clinical duties of a third year student.

Residency Fair

The SOM Office of Medical Education, in collaboration with the Office for Graduate Medical Education, sponsors a fall residency fair which is open to all medical students.  All residency programs have an opportunity to exhibit, with faculty, staff, and resident representatives present from those programs.  Students have the unique opportunity to learn more about specific programs on campus and corroborate specialty information from the career development series with local experts.

USMLE Step 2 CK

Step 2 CK is the second standardized exam that is completed on the path to licensure for the practice of unsupervised medicine.  This purpose of this exam is to test the student’s application of clinical knowledge that was demonstrated during the clerkships of the third year.  Successful completion of Step 2 CK is required for graduation; most students complete their Step 2 CK in the summer between the M3 and M4 years.
